Ruth’s Diner has been open for 90 years since 1930, and is the second oldest restaurant in Utah! In 1949 Ruth’s downtown building was sold and demolished, so she bought a Salt Lake Trolly car, and brought it about two miles up Emigration Canyon, where the restaurant currently stands. Ruth passed away in 1989 at the age of 94, but her restaurant is still thriving during breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Visitutah.com ranks Emigration Canyon as the 7th best place to cycle in the state of Utah, and states on their website that they recommend stopping Ruth’s Diner on the way down!Ruth’s Diner is known for their homemade biscuits. I’ll admit that I ended up eating the raspberry jam by itself because it was that delicious. Eating the jam is one way how to get some glucose while cycling!Hey, I’m Kelli! I’m one of the managers here at Ruth’s Diner. This is a really cool spot of Salt Lake, because it’s a staple, it’s a local favorite. We’ve been here since 1930, and you get to check out everything while you’re up here. We have the mountains, hikes, kind of everything Salt Lake has to offer. We have the city so close to use. The environment out here is beautiful, perfectly social distanced as well. So that’s really nice!Ruth’s Diner’s meatloaf burger was one of the best lunches that I’ve ever had in my life! The meat has just enough flavor to make it the way it is. It’s hard to describe, but in my opinion, the meatloaf burger is better than a traditional hamburger.Ruth’s Diner has breaded fries that are hard to find at most restaurants! This is their Fresh Atlantic Salmon Hash. It’s a flavorful breakfast plate, that will energize you for any recreational activity. Just like the meatloaf burger, the Atlantic Salmon Hash had the perfect amount of flavor. Great seasoned salmon can be hard to come across, but this was one of them. The sauce on top is their homemade hollandaise sauce. Speaking of hollandaise sauce, another breakfast suggestion is their Eggs Benedicts, that include salmon, pulled pork and chicken friend steak benedicts. This place is awesome. Ruth’s Diner is taking extra precautions, because of the coronavirus. Currently, they are seating everyone outside. Even with the coronavirus, this place was still busy.
