Top 3 Cliff Diving Spots near Salt Lake City
Utah’s slogan is “Life Elevated” and we couldn’t think of a better way to live than an adrenaline rush filled plunge into a lake to cool off during your summer visit. The following are three of the most well known spots to cliff jump near Salt Lake City.
WARNING: Your safety is your responsibility.
1. Echo Reservoir
On Highway 80 leading out of Park City towards Wyoming at Echo Reservoir there are cliffs of all sizes ranging from 10-50 feet. To get to these cliffs park at the Echo Reservoir Viewing Area on the northbound road. Then proceed to walk along the side of the highway south for about 1 mile. As the land juts back out into the lake you will see trails leading down to the cliffs. The water levels here are high enough May-July to enjoy a great day in the sun. Many boaters frequent this spot so be aware of water traffic when swimming in the area.
2. Lake Mary
A Wasatch front classic in the realm of cliff jumping, Lake Mary offers a brisk hike to get the blood flowing and great mountain views. The cliff sizes here range from 10-40 feet. To visit Lake Mary, park in the Brighton Ski Resort Parking lot and hike the trail towards Sunset Peak. On the way up to Sunset Peak there are a series of lakes, the first and largest being Lake Mary. The tall cliffs are on the East side of the lake along the trail going up to the peak. The shorter cliffs are on the West side. Bring plenty of bug repellent as the mosquitos can be quite ferocious in the summer months. Water levels are high enough from May-July, however weather can be
inclement in the mountains so be prepared for rain.
3. Causey Reservoir
A favorite location for all sorts of non-motorized water activities, Causey Reservoir is also a prime cliff jumping location. Located 1 hour of downtown up the Weber river Causey is a great place to spend the day on the lake enjoying the hot Utah summer days. Once you arrive in the reservoir parking lots you will either hike or swim to the east side of the reservoir jutting out from across the lookout. There are a range of cliffs here varying from 10-40 feet. If you chose to spend time in the water be sure to bring inflatable devices as there are not many beaches at this reservoir. Again the best months are between May-July to visit.
If you are feeling very adventurous you can also drive south to Lake Powell and experience the best cliff jumping in the world with great weather all summer long.
Almost all of Utah’s lakes are reservoirs, we recommend that you always check the water levels before you visit by visiting:
