Miss Drive-In Theaters? The Scera Shell is a Great Family-Friendly Alternative
To much dismay, gone are the days where families could stay in their cars and enjoy a movie. What was once a popular way to watch the latest movies had recently turned retro, only to disappear again. However, some may be surprised to hear of another outdoor movie offering located in the heart of Utah County at the Scera Shell.
The Scera was founded in 1933 and has been an Orem landmark right on University Parkway ever since. They offer movies in a traditional indoor setting, but then the Scera Shell came along in 1984. Their outdoor amphitheater features a grass hill to a stage or movie screen, housing 3,500 guests. They screen popular movies each week and also house musicals from High School Musical to Spongebob. If you are new to Utah go to the U, the Scera Shell is a stop to make! Check out more fun ideas here!
Whether you want to experience an outdoor movie for nostalgia, or simply to experience something unique, their Movies Under the Stars are a perfect way to accomplish both. Imagine watching Disney’s Encanto on the big screen under the stars picnic-style. The Scera Shell offers your favorite snacks and beverages, and also provides lawn chairs. One of their best features is their competitive price. While movie theaters usually charge $15-20/ticket, the Shell charges $4/ticket. Movies begin at dusk and are a great way to have a family activity, a date with your significant other, or even a fun time with friends.
The Scera is all about promoting and preserving “the arts”, whether that be film, plays, or dance. Supporting them by embarking on a fun time with family and friends will both support the arts as well as help save you money. Another way to enjoy the arts outdoors is heading to a concert at Usana Amphitheater! Next time you’re down South, be sure to check out what the Scera Shell is playing here!
