Two Dog Friendly Hiking Trail around Salt Lake City, Utah.
Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah. It’s surrounded by the beautiful Wasatch mountains. Salt Lake City is a beautiful place with not only good city experience, but also many great outdoor adventures. If you are traveling into Utah to visit national parks and stopped in Salt Lake City for the first stop, don’t worry, You still get many good trails even in the Salt Lake City area. Even these trails are not in the national parks, you are getting just as good views and vibes on these trails.
#1 Millcreek Pipeline Trail, Salt Lake City, Utah
This trail is one of the dog friendly trails in Salt Lake City. It is one of the popular outdoor recreation areas. The trail is about 3.4 mile round trip, with a good amount of elevation in the first 25 mins hike. The trail is also shared by many of the mountain bikers, so please watch out for the bikes on the trail.
One of the tricks for people who have their dog with them is that on odd dates, dogs can be off leash. Whether you have a dog or not, this will be a great trail to experience. If you have a dog with you, look for the odd dates to go on the trail, and your little friend can be off leash.
There is an amazing overlook at the end of the trail. Throughout the trail, you will see many greens in the mountain. You will get many great photos with a view on top of the mountain to see the forest. Don’t give up in the middle, because you Don’t want to miss this view! When you reach the top, don’t rush to go back. Find a rock, and sit down to enjoy the city overload for a moment.

#2 Heughs Canyon Trail, Salt Lake City, Utah
Heughs Canyon Trail is about a 2.9 mile round trip. It’s a more challenging trail. This trail is better visited before snow starts. During the winter time, this trail can be quite hard to visit. The reason why this trail is more challenging is that it has more slopes and has a little rock climbing at the very end of the trail.
At the end of the trail, there is a great waterfall awaiting you at the end. For those people who chase waterfalls, this will be a must visit trail for you. It is the best time to visit this trail during the summer season, because you will need to walk into a small river to see this waterfall right in front of you. Yes, it is a harder trail, but it is totally worth it. Especially during the summer season , and you will be able to see this great waterfall at the end of the trail.
Even though this is a dog friendly trail, unlike the Millcreek Pipeline Trail, you will have to put your dog on leash to visit this trail if you plan to bring your little friend. One trick about this trail, bring an extra pair of shoes. You will be walking through many small rivers. They are not high at all, but it’s tall enough to get your shoes wet. Especially at the end of the trail, you will have to walk into the river to see the waterfall at the end corner.
